Lakewood Approves 388-Unit Apartment Project Replacing Former Office Building
Texas-based developer JPI has secured approval from the City of Lakewood for a significant residential project located at 3200 E. Carson Street. The plan involves the demolition of a 1980s office building on a nearly five-acre property, making way for a new five-story structure. This development is slated to include 388 residential units, with a total size exceeding 630,000 square feet, encompassing living spaces, amenity areas, and a dedicated parking structure.
City records indicate that AO is the architectural firm designing the project. The site was reportedly acquired from AARP in December 2025. This Lakewood development is part of JPI's broader expansion in Southern California, with the developer also pursuing similar residential initiatives in Gardena and actively constructing housing in West Carson and Downtown Long Beach. The conversion of existing commercial space into residential units highlights a growing trend in urban planning, offering a practical approach to increasing housing supply in densely populated areas like Los Angeles County. For developers and investors, such projects underscore the potential for adaptive reuse in meeting regional housing needs.
