Lakewood Approves 388-Unit Apartment Complex Replacing Office Building
The City of Lakewood has approved plans for a significant residential development by Texas-based developer JPI, located at 3200 E. Carson Street. The project involves demolishing a 1980s office building on a nearly five-acre property to construct a new five-story structure featuring 388 residential units. The total development spans more than 630,000 square feet, encompassing the residential units, amenity spaces, and a parking structure.
City records indicate that AO is the architectural firm responsible for the design. The property was reportedly sold by AARP in December 2025, paving the way for this conversion. JPI is actively expanding its Southern California portfolio, with similar residential developments announced in Gardena and ongoing housing construction in West Carson and Downtown Long Beach. This project highlights a growing trend of repurposing older commercial properties for much-needed housing.
