Founders Development Plans New Extended-Stay Hotel in San Antonio Medical Center
Founders Development Company, based in Dallas, is set to construct a four-story, 124-room Echo Suites hotel on Wurzbach Road within San Antonio's South Texas Medical Center. This project is part of a growing trend in the hospitality market, with extended-stay properties representing a substantial portion of new hotel construction in the city.
The Echo Suites, a new Wyndham Hotels and Resorts product, is designed for guests requiring stays of weeks or months. Rooms will feature kitchen areas, and the hotel will prioritize amenities like laundry and fitness centers over traditional restaurants or conference rooms, aiming for lower operational costs and room rates under $100. Construction is anticipated to commence in early 2027, with an opening projected for early 2028.
The hotel will target visiting medical professionals, patients, and their families, leveraging its proximity to multiple hospitals. This development aligns with data from CoStar, indicating that nearly half of the 983 hotel rooms currently under construction in San Antonio are extended-stay. This type of development is attractive due to lower operating costs and higher profit margins, especially in a market facing increased borrowing and material expenses. Founders Development also plans additional projects in College Station, New Braunfels, and near Lackland Air Force Base, signaling a strategic focus on this niche market.
