G3 Urban Advances 60-Home Project in Compton Under Builder’s Remedy
Developer G3 Urban is moving forward with plans for a 60-unit housing development at 2320 N. Parmalee Avenue in Compton. The project, detailed in a recent environmental report, will feature 60 two-story single-family homes, comprising 48 market-rate units and 12 designated as affordable housing. Designed by Architeyk, the residences will offer one-, three-, and four-bedroom layouts, each with private yard space, on a 4.37-acre site located across from Centennial High School and adjacent to Compton Creek.
A key aspect of this development is its filing under California's Builder's Remedy law. This legal provision, intended to accelerate housing production, prevents the City of Compton from blocking the project, provided it meets specific affordability criteria. G3 Urban has previously utilized this law for a proposed development in Artesia. Construction is anticipated to take approximately 18 months, pending a conditional use permit and other necessary approvals. This project exemplifies how state housing mandates can override local land-use restrictions, offering a pathway for developers to deliver new housing supply in constrained markets.
