XMX Defense Establishes Unmanned Aircraft Operations at Mineral Wells Regional Airport
XMX Defense, an American defense technology company, initiated its operations at Mineral Wells Regional Airport with a groundbreaking ceremony on October 3. The company is undertaking construction and buildout of leased airport facilities to support the assembly, integration, engineering, maintenance, training, and flight operations of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). This move includes developing a portfolio of aircraft, such as the ROGUE 450, a hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing system.
The establishment of XMX Defense builds on Mineral Wells' rich defense aviation history, which once housed Fort Wolters, a major U.S. Army helicopter training center. Local officials, including Mayor Pro Tem Beth Watson, highlighted the continuity of vertical flight technology in the area. The project is also expected to contribute to the growing aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing sector in North Texas, potentially attracting a cluster of related suppliers and technology firms.
As part of its presence, XMX Defense is also launching the Texas Unmanned Systems Defense Center of Excellence. This initiative aims to foster collaboration and shared infrastructure among defense and unmanned-systems companies. This development signifies a substantial investment in local infrastructure and workforce, positioning Mineral Wells as a hub for future defense technology innovation and economic growth in western North Texas.
