Digital Realty Plans Gigawatt-Scale Data Center Campus in Kokomo, Indiana
Digital Realty, a prominent data center provider, is exploring the development of a substantial data center campus in Kokomo, Indiana. The proposed project involves constructing three single-story data centers across a 476-acre greenfield site within the city's Industrial Park North, near US 31 and County Road 400 North. This ambitious development aims to achieve approximately 1 gigawatt (GW) of IT capacity, encompassing around three million square feet of data center space.
Kokomo, situated about 50 miles north of Indianapolis and serving as the county seat of Howard County, would host Digital Realty's first operations in Indiana. The city initially disclosed the company's interest earlier this month. Key aspects of the proposal include the use of a closed-loop cooling system designed to minimize water consumption. Furthermore, the city has stated that no tax abatements will be granted for any company developing this site, a significant detail for financial planning. The full build-out of the campus is projected to occur by 2033, indicating a long-term development horizon for this major infrastructure investment.
