East Palo Alto Approves 430-Unit Affordable Housing Project on Former School District Site
Plans have been approved for a substantial affordable housing development at 2120-2160 Euclid Avenue in East Palo Alto, San Mateo County. This project, led by Pacific Companies, involves a ground-lease agreement with the Ravenswood City School District to redevelop its former headquarters. The site will feature two six-story buildings, totaling 430 apartments.
The 80-foot-tall complex will offer a diverse unit mix, including 12 studios, 275 one-bedrooms, 119 two-bedrooms, and 24 three-bedrooms. All units are designated for households earning between 30% and 80% of the area's median income, addressing a critical need for affordability in the region. The design, by Orange County-based AO, showcases podium-style architecture with varied facade materials like plaster, stucco, and brick veneer.
The development plan requires the demolition of 13 existing office buildings. Construction is projected to span approximately 33 months, with an anticipated groundbreaking as early as June 2027. This approval marks a significant step towards increasing housing supply and affordability in the highly competitive Bay Area market, offering a clear path for developers targeting similar infill opportunities.
