The Fullerton College Speech and Debate Team has been crowned the 2026 Collegiate Advocacy Research and Debate (CARD) Nationals JV Champions. Competing at Weber State University, the Hornets outperformed teams from major institutions including the University of Minnesota, Gonzaga, and Hillsdale College. The victory was led by Communications Studies Professor LaToya Green, who emphasized the importance of mentorship and rigorous evidence-based advocacy in the team’s success.
In the final round, Fullerton College defeated Hillsdale College with a 2-1 decision. Individual honors were awarded to Cheyenne Abeyta and Talitha Arthurs, who were recognized as the second and third-place speakers overall. The tournament’s central debate topic focused on the complexities of employee unionization. This national title highlights the strength of Fullerton’s community college forensics program and provides students with critical skills in organization, reasoning, and public conviction. The team’s achievement is being celebrated as a significant milestone for the college’s academic reputation.
