AGC California and Major Contractors Launch Subcontractor Mentorship Program in Los Angeles
The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of California, in collaboration with its Construction Education Foundation (CEF) and the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce, has initiated the Prime Pipeline Alliance. This new eight-month mentorship program, launched with major builders including Clark Construction, Hensel Phelps, PCL Construction, Skanska, Turner Construction, and Webcor, focuses on developing small, local, and diverse subcontractors in Los Angeles.
The alliance will mentor 12 selected subcontractor firms, covering trades such as plumbing, electrical, and concrete work. Unlike traditional one-on-one mentorships, this cohort model allows all six participating general contractors to engage with the subcontractors. Through eight sessions, these firms will connect with various builder teams, including estimators, preconstruction leads, and scope managers, providing an "ecosystem of support" within the companies.
This initiative aims to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of underrepresented firms, addressing a critical need for a robust and diverse subcontractor base in the region. For developers and general contractors, this program could expand the pool of qualified local partners, potentially streamlining project delivery and meeting diversity requirements for public and private sector projects in Los Angeles.
